Finishing off a week where they beat both first place teams the
Devil Rays fielded, hit and chanted their way to victory over the
Red Sox in a thriller on Saturday. The Rays dominated early as
Ben Curry showed why he is one of the best pitchers in the league,
going 4 solid innings and only letting up 2 runs. Led by the hitting
of Tommy Brennan, Zach Armand and Matt Joy, and the defense of
Chris Brown, Sam Gesualdi and Zach Schutz the Rays jumped out to
a 6-2 lead after 5 innings but unfortuantely left too many men
on base, leaving the door open for the potent Red Sox lineup. And
sure enough the Red Sox struck hard in their last ups as Cam Macleod
drive in 2 runs and then with 2 outs Andrew Dunn hit a shot into
the gap driving in 2 more to tie the game. Not to be outdone by
his brother, Brian Dunn then laced a single off the pitcher's glove
to give the Red Sox the lead 7-6. But Rays reliever Skylar Falite
buckled down and stopped the bleeding and it was now the Rays'
turn to rally. Eric Ramsdell led off with a walk, then stole second
and third and then took home on an over-throw to tie the game.
Ben Curry worked out a walk to get the winning run on base and
then after two strikeouts Tommy Brennan once again came thru with
a clutch hit putting runners on 2nd and 3rd. But they weren't there
long as Lucas Lentine needed only one pitch to line a shot up the
middle for the walkoff win.

Game Comments:
For the second time this season, Corey Crossely of the Athletics
and Ryan McGinnis of the Angels locked up in a close pitchers dual.
Both pitchers were outstanding and were supported by excellant
defense. The game was a see saw battle with each teams taking leads
and coming from behind but the Angels held on behind their stellar
closer Keegan O'Donnell to win a thriller, 10-9, and give Ryan
McGinnis his fifth victory of the season.
The Angels offense was led by William McGuinness(four for four,
with four RBI's and three runs scored) and Brian Powers(2 RBI's)
while Paul O'Connor, Kyle Cahill and Aaron Dibella were big hitters
for the A's.
Both teams flashed the leather with great plays in the field, particularly
in the last inning, as the Athletic's Paul O'Connor made a perfect
throw to get William McGuinness at the plate trying to stretch
a triple into a home run while Shortstop Ryan McGinnis made a
tremendous play with the tying run at third to throw out the
speedy Dan Lynch at first by 1/2 step to end the game.
